NAVRC Sets Up Active Diseases Sentinel Sites In Three States In Nigeria

The National Arbovirus and Vectors Research Centre (NAVRC), has commenced the proposed states diseases surveillance by setting up active disease sentinel sites in Benue, Nasarawa and Niger states of Nigeria.

The aim of NAVRC is to sustain nationwide active surveillance of infectious disease vectors, beginning with the three states.

This routine active surveillance is part of efforts by the Centre to identify Mosquito Vectors and incriminate them for arboviruses  to forestall the outbreak of serious infectious diseases such as Yellow Fever Virus in any part of the country.

This will serve as an early warning system to the government and concerned organizations  to take appropriate measures to avert human and economic losses often associated with disease outbreaks.
