Following the increasing rate of Yellow fever outbreaks in the country, the National Arbovirus and Vectors Research Centre has commenced active Disease Vectors surveillance in Ebonyi State. The Centre has set-up Disease Vectors Surveillance Sentinel sites in different parts of the state. This study will help determine vector composition and abundance in the state, so as to determine risks of arboviral disease outbreaks in human population. Information obtained from this study will also help the government to take preemptive action to forestall reoccurring outbreaks of infectious diseases like Yellow fever in the State.
The Centre had already trained skilled-level man power in the state to help carry out this routine surveillance of disease vectors of public health importance in the state.
