NAVRC deploys Team of Entomologists to help combat Yellow fever outbreak in Enugu State

The National Arbovirus and Vectors Research Centre has deployed Team of Entomologists to help combat the recent outbreak of Yellow fever  in Umuopu and Ette communities, in Igbo-Eze North Local Government Area, Enugu state, following the confirmation of Yellow fever outbreak in the two communities.

The team has commenced immediate Yellow fever Vector survey in the affected communities to identify the principal vector, determine vector diversity and density in the affected areas.

Survey of banana axils for Aedes mosquito eggs

The Team has been carrying out house-to-house survey of earthen pots, tree holes, open water containers, banana axils etc. to determine the abundance of Aedes mosquitoes in the affected communities and to determine the possible risk of the disease spreading to the neighbouring communities, especially, with the recent surging of new cases.

NAVRC has been working in concerted efforts with the state government in the control of further spread of the disease in the state.
